CRC Coalition conducted its annual general assembly last July 26 for its mid-term assessment and planning.
Geomel Jetonzo, Senior Programs Manager of World Vision, provided the project updates on the NGO Alternative Report, child rights agenda, organizational capacity development, and building strong linkages. Melanie Llana of Institute on Church and Social Issues, leading the Systems Working Group said the data capture tool learning session strengthened the capacity of members to monitor the child rights issues that will feed into the alternative report writing. Peregrino Bertolano of EDUCO Philippines, leading the Capacity Building Working Group gave an update on the results of the training needs assessment. Major activities they conducted include the Advocacy Strategy workshop and General Comment 21: Children in Street Situations learning sessions. Stella Echano of Kindernothilfe Ev., leading the Child Participation Working Group is now preparing on its engagement with the Council for the Welfare of Children in monitoring the implementation of the 3rd National Plan of Action for Children together with Children Talk to Children. Lastly, the Membership Working Group lead by Riza Velasco of VIDES Philippines showed the new set of organizations applying to the organization as well as the minimum standard of membership in the Coalition.
Aena Briones provided updates on the status of the 3 priority child rights agenda which includes inclusive education, public investment on children, and child participation. “In 5 years, the broad goal is to make our government accountable through strengthening the implementation of UN CRC in the Philippines.”
The midterm assessment and planning was facilitated by Magnolia Escobedo, Secretariat Coordinator of the Coalition, to look at the different strengths and hindrances in fulfilling the mandate of the Coalition.
